RTA operates three radio networks (RTA Radio 1, RTA Radio 2, and RTA FM), four terrestrial television services (RTA2, RTA3 and their HD simulcasts), and one satellite service (RTA Global).
History[]
Origins[]
The company traces its beginnings to 1945, when Seo Min-Suk, an engineer who is also known as the father of Jiesanese Television, established the Seo Electronics Corporation (SEC), which specialized in assembling transmitters. Realizing the potential of television in the country, he was the first to apply for a license in Congress to estabish a television station in 1947, which was granted a year later. By then, due to the scarcity of raw materials as a result of World War II, SEC was compelled to branch into radio broadcasting instead.
In 1948, Kwon Yoon-Jang, bought 80% of SEC and had it renamed to Jiesan Broadcasting System (JBS). Seo Min-Suk, however, remained as part-owner and served as general manager of the station. In 1950 JBS 2 was introduced as the country's first television channel and made its first broadcast on June 14, 1950. By 1957, the name JBS was changed to the current name, Radio Television Arts (RTA).
